What can I expect in my CSA box?
By subscribing to the Stevens County CSA program you are signing up for the best, most flavorful food produced under sustainable conditions. We pledge to do things the old-fashioned way with no herbicides, pesticides, GMO seeds or chemical fertilizers. Our animals are in the great outdoors and not in confinement barns and we don’t adminster hormones or antibiotics to artifically fuel the growth process. Our food will give you a sense of what food was when pride in production was more important than shortcuts to fast profits.
Our food is also raised in a way that asks you to partner with us in the growing process. Because we refuse to partake in today’s technology that robs food of flavor and can negatively affect your health, we are more susceptible to the elements than commerical farmers. We fight weeds through hand-pulling, deter bugs through careful planting, keep our animals healthy by having them out on a rotation of clean grass and lots of sunshine. All of these methods provide better food but more risk. Fruit from local orchards that has not been sprayed can appear slightly blemished at times, but taste wonderful. Our produce will vary in size, but never in flavor. Although we have not yet had a crop failure or a significant livestock loss due to weather and conditions, these are both possible. In the event we are beset by challenges, we will keep you well informed and do our best to fill-in your box with an apropriate substitute. So thank you for joining with us in this noble, rewarding work we all call farming.
Each weekly CSA box provides flavorful vegetables, stone-ground whole wheat bread, farm fresh eggs, as well as succulent seasonal fruit.
During the fall/winter season, you'll enjoy seasonal vegetables like pumpkins, potatoes, carrots and squash. In addition, you’ll find local fresh and dried fruit, nuts, honey, organic baked goods, beef jerky and apple cider in your CSA box along with our CSA staples of bread and eggs.
In each week's box you will also find a newsletter with news about food in America, more about our farms, and a weekly recipe featuring components of your CSA box.
The vegetables and fruit in your CSA box will appear as they are available seasonally. Below you'll find a sampling of actual CSA Boxes from the Stevens County CSA throughout the season. And remember, even if it's not pictured every time, you'll always get a loaf of bread, and a dozen eggs along with each week's fruit and produce.
