Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When and where do I get my CSA box?
A: The CSA box pick-up location for Stevens County CSA is:
Front Porch Antiques & Produce
(9 miles south of Colville on Hwy 395 South)
CSA Box Pick Up Times: Friday evenings - between 5 and 6 p.m.
Saturdays - between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Q: Can I pick up my box earlier in the week?
A: In order to give you the freshest product possible in a consistent manner, box pickups must be on either Friday between 5 and 6 p.m. or Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. If you're there earlier, your box will most likely not be ready for pickup yet. But don't be late! If your box is not picked up by 6 p.m. Saturday, our policy is to donate it to a local food bank.
Q: What if I go on vacation or am not able to pick up my box for the week?
A: Sometimes schedule changes mean we can’t always make it to various appointments. If you cannot pickup your box on the pick-up days, please call us to make arrangements. You can give the box away to a friend that week, have someone else pick it up for you, etc. However, our policy is to donate unclaimed CSA boxes to a local food bank. So don’t miss out on your food! Call us!
Q: I'm allergic to certain fruits/vegetables, can I make substitutions in my box?
A: Due to the widely varied nature of our boxes (several different vegetables in and out of season for 6 months), we do not allow substitutions at this time. However, we do make an effort to give each subscriber a balanced variety of fruits and vegetables each week. So the tomaotes you potentially don't like will be balanced out with corn or peaches that you will. Our suggestion is to give those extra fruits and veggies to friends or co-workers as a gift! They will likely really appreciate you sharing the fresh, local harvest with them.
Q: Is the Stevens County CSA Certified Organic?
A: Our program is not Certified Organic through the State of Washington for one simple reason: we believe that a face-to-face relationship with our customers provides more transparency and honesty about our program than a “Certified Organic” label ever can. Our growers are dedicated to our Naturally Grown standards that outline our commitment to be good stewards of our land while raising nutritious, additive free food. Click here to read more about our growing standards and our views on certification.
Q: When do I need to subscribe?
A: The short answer is that we need your 50% down-payment by the season's subscription deadline (or by the early-bird deadline if you want the discount). The long answer is the sooner the better--we can only plan (and plant!) for a certain number of CSA subscriptions each year, and they go quickly. So be sure to get your name and your down-payment to Jamie before we’re sold out.
Q: What do I do with the box I pick up my food in each week?
A: In order to keep costs down, we are using recycled fruit and banana boxes to transport your food. These boxes allow us to keep our packing process streamlined and organized, so please bring your box back when you come to pick up each week! We can always use your empty egg cartons, and plastic and paper shopping bags, as well--recycle them by dropping them off at the Front Porch.
